Bertelsmann was founded in 1835, through 170 years development it becomes the biggest media company in Europe, and ranked No.3 in the world. Revenue exceeds 19.3 billion, employee reaches 97,132(till Dec.31, 2006)

Bertelsmann produces, serves and markets media. Our content is contributed by RTL Group, the No. 1 European broadcaster; Random House, the world's largest book-publishing group; Gruner + Jahr, Europe's biggest magazine publisher; and BMG, the umbrella of Sony BMG Music Entertainment and BMG Music Publishing. arvato provides media and communication services, while Direct Group is the global market leader in media distribution through clubs and on the Internet.

Bertelsmann AG finalized its buyback of Groupe Bruxelles Lambert's (GBL) stake at the beginning of July 2006. 

The shareholder structure after the buyback: The Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Mohn family own 76.9 percent and 23.1 percent of the capital shares, held via intermediate companies. The Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft (BVG) controls 100 percent of the voting rights.
